February 2006 Edition

New Trillium Poster!

Continuous Computing today announced the release of the latest Trillium "Telecommunications Network Infrastructure" poster. This is the fourth iteration of the popular industry reference tool and the first new version since Continuous Computing acquired the Trillium Digital Systems business from Intel Corporation in February 2003.

Continuous Computing's new Trillium poster will be distributed free of charge at the company's booth at the 3GSM World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain from February 13 - 16 (Stand C71 / C73). See a snapshot of the poster and a complete list of other industry events at which the poster will be available at www.ccpu.com/poster.

Representing the most complete illustration of telecom network technology that the company has ever published, the Trillium posters serve as evolving "world maps" for the telecommunications industry while underscoring Continuous Computing's depth and breadth of expertise in this industry.

As a "supplier-agnostic" resource for the industry, the Trillium poster incorporates communication protocol technology information covering IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Wireless, Signaling System 7 (SS7), Signaling Transport (SIGTRAN), legacy networking, and more.

"Telecom technology expands at an exponential pace, and the Trillium poster provides a comprehensive illustration of how the different network elements work together," said Garrett Choi, general manager of the Trillium business unit. "The launch of the fourth-generation Trillium poster is an important milestone in Trillium's long-standing and continuing commitment to maintain thought leadership across the telecom industry. By design, it is not intended to be a marketing piece, but rather a useful reference tool for system architects, engineers, and students."

The first version of the Trillium poster was launched in 1997 when Trillium Digital Systems, Inc. was a private, independent company. Subsequent versions were developed in 1999 and 2002. Continuous Computing estimates that over 15,000 copies of the first three iterations of the Trillium poster have been distributed. The company is anticipating strong demand for the newest version, which is available in 24" x 36" hard copy as well as viewable on Continuous Computing's web site at www.ccpu.com/poster.

Continuous Computing will have an exciting display at 3GSM in Barcelona, Spain from February 13-17.

Trillium+plus SIGTRAN Launched

Continuous Computing announced the release of Trillium+plus SIGTRAN, a pre-integrated binary software signaling solution that enables rapid deployment of standards-based SS7 IP. The high-performance, low-cost solution will address the increasing need for integrated solutions to accelerate time to market for telecom network infrastructure products.

"As a pre-integrated product, Trillium+plus SIGTRAN empowers Continuous Computing customers to bridge new and existing technologies to older, legacy networks faster and more affordably. Trillium+plus binaries help accelerate time to market and are also extremely cost efficient," said Annita McDonald, deputy general manager of Continuous Computing's Trillium business unit.

Trillium+plus SIGTRAN carries SS7 signaling traffic across IP-based networks and facilitates seamless and ubiquitous deployment of applications and services, regardless of the underlying network infrastructure. This allows telecom equipment manufacturers to focus internal resources on application development and results in the completion and deployment of network elements in a fraction of the time.

"The Trillium team has extensive industry expertise in SS7 and SIGTRAN, and Trillium+plus SIGTRAN is yet another step forward in our vision of providing complete Network Service-Ready Platforms for our customers," said Ms. McDonald.

The third offering in the new Trillium+plus integrated solutions product line, Trillium+plus SIGTRAN software is designed to run on existing host line cards and does not require additional hardware. Trillium+plus SIGTRAN may be used in Short Message Service Centers (SMSCs), Home/Visitor Location Registers (HLRs/VLRs), Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs), Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) and other core network components.

Trillium+plus SIGTRAN is competitively priced and is available now for purchase. Visit http://www.ccpu.com/products/trilliumplus/sigtran.html for more information or stop by the Continuous Computing booth (Stand C71 / C73) at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain from Feb. 13 - 16.

New Article on IMS

At the 3GSM trade show in Barcelona, Continuous Computing will unveil the first in a series of pragmatic papers that address real-world challenges of deploying or upgrading to IMS. Key business and technology drivers for TEMs will be addressed with insights on why old business models are giving way to agile and more adaptable approaches.

The first paper is called Transforming Network Architectures: An Integrated Approach to IMS. Stop by the booth to receive a copy of this informative overview and learn why an integrated approach to IMS best positions TEMs to assist service providers in IMS network transformations while expediting a rapid infusion of new applications and profitable network services.

Here is a snippet:

IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) has emerged as a formidable and undeniable catalyst for network change. As momentum increases, telecommunications equipment manufacturers (TEMs) have growing incentive to retool their businesses to help service providers accelerate time to market with a lineup of IMS-enabled services while delivering new and creative ways to lower total cost of ownership and be more competitive. There is much at stake here. TEMs can capture greater market share by offering service providers integrated "network service-ready" solutions comprising a broad base of IMS protocol software with a flexible, adaptable platform that can accommodate quick shifts in user needs and network requirements.

Article: IMS Shifts Network Design and Deployment

The following article by Garrett Choi, general manager of Continuous Computing's Trillium business unit, recently appeared in wireless.europe magazine.

IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) will support a new generation of services and will change how network infrastructure and applications platforms are designed and built. The next step will be the implementation of IMS, which will support the convergence of wireless and wireline infrastructure to a converged, all-IP backbone. This will create a global opportunity for the delivery of innovative voice, data and multimedia services.

Recent Events and Speaking Engagements

Last month, Continuous Computing attended Informa's Softswitches and Media Gateways event in London, where Principal Architect James Radley presented on "Defining the Role of Softswitches and Media Gateways in the Network". The show was a successful industry event that focused on new applications and technologies, and the high availability platforms required to support them.

President and CEO PJ Go plus CFO and EVP Erez Barnavon attended the Thomas Weisel Partners Technology Conference at The Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco on February 6. The event was a gathering of the "who's who" in the technology space.
